Range Description

Caridina spelunca is only known from a single cave (Old Napier Downs Cave) in the Kimberly region of Australia (Davie 2002). It is possible that the species is more widely distributed and not a true cave species (based on ongoing genetic research). However, to confirm this a full taxonomic and morphological analysis is needed on new specimens collected in rivers from a different catchment that are potentially this species (T. Page pers. comm. 2011).
