Paniceae R.Br.[1] is a tribe of the Panicoideae subfamily of the true grass family. It is further subdivided into tribes and subtribes that includes about 100 genera and 2000 species, and is primarily found in tropical and warm temperate regions of the world.[2] Paniceae is a member of the PACMAD clade of grasses, the evolutionary group in which C4 photosyntesis independently evolved a number of times[3]. Most of the Millets are members of tribe Paniceae.
