This species is broadly distributed in Central Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa. Its range extends from Sudan in the north to Zimbabwe in the south, and from Angola eastwards to Tanzania, encompassing southern and eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Savanna Gerbil (Gerbilliscus validus) is a species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is found in Angola, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, moist savanna, and arable land.
