Large jird with distinct black tail tuft. Yellow to orange-brown above, dark with dense, soft fur. Underparts white with a narrow orange line running along the demarcation and onto wrist and thigh. Feet white. Soles of hind feet par­tially haired. Claws black. Head largely grayish with white around eye. Ears moderately sized. Unpigmented and with small, whitish patch behind base of each ear. Tail long, yellow to orange-brown above, not significantly bicolored, and dark orange at base. Tail brush distinct, black, reaching up to half the length of the tail.
