Range Description

This species naturally occurs from northern and southeastern Pakistan throughout much of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and is present in much of Myanmar. It has been introduced to Aceh in northern Sumatra and Java (both Indonesia), and there are populations on Penang Island (Malaysia) and Phuket Island (Thailand), also close to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia (Harrison and Bates 1991), and may be possibly present in Kenya (not mapped here). It occurs from sea level to well over 3,500 m (Musser and Carleton 2005).
