Leo Shapiro set an older version of "Parus carolinensis" as an exemplar on "Poecile carolinensis (Audubon, 1834)".

Alec Lindsay commented on "Poecile carolinensis (Audubon, 1834)":
Carolina chickadees (_Poecile carolinensis_) are fairly indistinguishable from Black-capped chickadees (_Poecile atricapillus_) using visual field marks alone (i.e. photographs). Differences in vocalizations are the best way to tell these two species apart. The vetted images shown here are best viewed not as confirmed Carolina chickadees, but as indistinguishable from Carolina chickadees.
