Range Description

This species was described from the Holgat River in Namaqualand, northwest South Africa, and occupies a range from the southern edge of the Namib Desert dune field in central Namibia to the north bank of the Buffels River in South Africa (Harrison et al. 2003). Its range encompasses a low altitude distribution extending from the arid coastline inland for some 50 to 100 km, where annual temperatures may be depressed by coastal mists that roll inland. Its extent of occurrence has been estimated at around 24,000 km2, with an area of occupancy of around 18,000 km2, estimated by removing unsuitable mountain terrain from the range.
