Axoclinus multicinctus Allen & Robertson, 1992

Multi-barred triplefin

Body short, robust; head large; cirri on head small, simple, 1 pair over nostrils, 1pair over eyes, a few spines between eyes; no teeth on sides of roof of mouth;  three dorsal fins (III + XII + 9-10); dorsal fin soft rays unbranched, except last branched to base; anal fin II, 18; pelvic fins completely separate; lateral line gradually descending from upper edge of gill cover to midlateral axis, with 23-24 tubed scales followed by 11-12 notched scales; scales above lateral line about as wide as long; scales small, none on head, breast, belly, and base of pectoral fins; total scales in longitudinal series 34-35. 

Body with three sets of "double" reddish-brown to blackish bars; pale interspaces between bars with narrow, faint brown bar through its center; a small blackish blotch on body just behind upper pectoral base; an intense black band on tail base; vertebral column with a series of short white streaks; base of tail fin with narrow red and white bars male: outer half of first dorsal fin and tail fin blackish.

Size: reaches about 3 cm.

Habitat: rocky reefs.

Depth: 1-20 m.

Known only from the Revillagigedos Islands.
