Synalpheus bocas is a cryptic snapping shrimp that lives in the interior canals of Caribbean sponges. Like other members of the paraneptunus species complex, (within the Gambarelloides species group), Synalpheus bocas has sparse rows of setae on the minor chela (claw) and is commonly found living in sponges in the genus Xestospongia (Anker and Toth 2008).
