An annual herb with erect, or geniculately ascending culms. Leaf-sheaths pilose with ciliate oral hairs and falcate auricles. Leaf-blades are 8–17 cm long; 1.5–4.5 mm wide with pilose surface. Inflorescence composed of racemes; not deciduous as a whole, or deciduous as a whole. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets sessile. Fruit Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ovoid; 4.5–8 mm long; hairy at apex.
