Habitat and Ecology
This species is an annual grass which grows in moist hot places in tropical regions of both hemispheres. The species can be found in damp and waterlogged, grazed and ungrazed meadows, open sandy ground, montane grasslands, moist woodlands, forest clearings, rivers and roadsides, and cultivated ground. Fruits are primarily dispersed by adhesion to animals and by hydroscopic action of the awn (Croat 1978).
