Range Description

The species is known from a number of records in northwestern Turkey and Transcaucasia (Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia). Dactylorhiza euxina has two varieties: var. euxina and var. markowitschii.

D. euxina var. euxina is found at these locations in Turkey:
  • Trabzon: E side of valley, Ilıca to Kaçkar Mountain, 2,700 m;
  • Rize: N side of Ovit pass, 1,900-2,000 m;
  • Çoruh: Tiryal Moutain, Murgul to Damar, 1,150 m;
  • Çoruh: Yalnızçam Silsilesi 10 km ESE of Şavşat, 2,000-2,400 m;
  • Kars: SW slope of Kısır Mountain, 2,500 m;
  • Erzurum: Çakmak Mountain, above Karayazı, 2,500- 2,900 m;
  • Ağrı: 3 km N of Cumaçay, 2,000 m (Davis 1965-1985);
  • Kars: Dağköy valley, wet places, 2,300 m (Ocakverdi 2001);
  • Artvin: Sahara, subalpine vegetation, 2,000 m (Eminağaoğlu and Anşin 2004);
  • Altındere Valley, Eşkıya Plateau alpine vegetation, stream-side, 2,120 m (Uzun and Anşin 2006);
  • Artvin: Borçka, Yıldız Lake, meadows, 2,000 m (Eminağaoğlu et al. 2008);
  • Trabzon: Sumela monastery surroundings, grassy slopes, 1,470 m (Uzun and Terzioğlu 2008);
  • Erzincan: Poske Mountain, around Ahmetli village, 2,141 m, 39º 52′ 56″ N, 39º 23′ 66″ E (Kandemir and Türkmen 2008).

D. euxina var. markowitschii is found at these locations in Turkey:
  • Trabzon/Gümüşhane: Zigana Mountains, 1,900-2,000 m;
  • Giresun: Uzundere Village, N side of Kariza pass, Giresun to Şebinkarahisar, 1,750 m;
  • Trabzon: Soğanlı pass, N side, 2,500-2,600 m;
  • Rize: Ovit pass, 2,500-2,800 m;
  • Çoruh: 26 km E of Demirkent, 2,100-2,200 m;
  • Çoruh: Yalnızçam Mountains, S of Şavşat, 2400 m;
  • Kars: 52.6 km NE of Ardahan towards Posof, 2,400-2,500 m (Davis 1965-1985);
  • Artvin: Kirazlı plateau, alpine vegetation, 2,450 m. (Eminağaoğlu and Anşin 2004);
  • Artvin: Borçka, Efeler, alpine pastures, 2,450 m (Eminağaoğlu et al. 2008).
