Range Description

This species is known exclusively from the Rio Magdalena Valley in western-central Colombia. It is known from only five collections, two from the department of Cundinamarca (Caparrapi; near Guaduas) and three from the department of Huila (Rio Magdalena near Paicol; forest around Finca Mehrenberg; Finca Merenberg/Vereda Agua Bonita).

NOTE: Finca Merenberg is a private reserve where significant scientific research has been carried out in the past, especially plant and bird studies. There are several different coordinates for this reserve in literature, however, and it is unclear as to which of these is correct. The options are listed below, with their corresponding references and the two marked with stars were used in this assessment. There also seems to be a conflict between altitude and locality for one of the specimens (Huila, Municipio de la Plata, Vereda Agua Bonita, Finca Merenberg, 1,200-1,300 m, 15 July 1975, Diaz et al. 534 (COL)), as Finca Merenberg, at whichever of the coordinates below, is found at an altitude of approx. 2,300 m.
