A perennial herb with a subglobose bulb with  a terete stem and membranous outer tunics. The leaves are flat, linear, usually densely white-hairy, rarely glabrous, tapering gradually to the apex, keeled below, with glabrous surfaces, scabrid on the margins. The spathe is 1-valved, sometimes 2-lobed. The umbel is hemispherical to fastigiate, and lax. The perianth is stellate with segments that are white often with a purple or reddish mid-vein, sometimes becoming pinkish as they age, and lanceolate, obtuse or subacute. The fruit is a capsule and enclosed in the perianth.
