A subglobose to ovoid bulb plant with greyish outer tunics and stout stem. Leaves are from 2 to 6 wide near the base, erect or suberect, shorter than the inflorescence, flat, lorate-lanceolate, sometimes slightly undulate, tapering to the apex, minutely scabrid on margins, basal with no visible sheaths above ground. It has 1 persistent 2-3-lobed spathe and many-flowered, hemispherical dense umbel. Perianth stellate, becoming reflexed with age and segments are deep purple, linear-oblong, obtuse while filaments are deep purple, simple, expanded at the base and tapering to the apex. Fruit is a capsule.
