Range Description

This species can be found from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec southwards through Central America. It occurs on both the Caribbean and Pacific versants and on several offshore islands, including: Cozumel, Mujeres, and del Carmen, Mexico (de Queiroz 1995, Khler and Streit 1996); Utila and Guanaja, Honduras; Maiz Grande and Maiz Pequeno, Nicaragua (S. Pasachnik pers. obs. 2008); El Rey, Panama; and Providencia and San Andres, Columbia (de Queiroz 1995). It has also been introduced to Florida, USA, and has now established a reproducing population (Enge 2006). A recent report also indicates that this species has been introduced into Venezuela, near Lecharias, along the road from Barcelona to La Cruz (Barrio-Amoros and Rivas-Fuenmayor 2008). This species has been found from sea level to 1,300 m above sea level.
