There is something mousy about twites. They have an inconspicuously brown plumage and when they look for food, they crawl over the ground in a nervous manner. However, they are real tough birds. The Dutch climate is too mild for the twite. It prefers to breed in cold rainy climates in northern Europe. However, when the weather gets too severe in October, groups of Norwegian twites come to the Netherlands for the winter, often together with other finches and buntings. You will then usually find them on bare windy plains, such as salt marshes.
