Scolopax celebensis is restricted to Sulawesi (not the south-east peninsula but a recent record from the east peninsula), Indonesia, although it is known from very few localities. It is possibly fairly common and overlooked in appropriate habitat. There have been few recent records, although it has been recorded in Lore Lindu National Park in 2000 (close to Hanggira village) and at Tomado in 2001,1 there must be concern that it is local, and declining.
