Global Range: (>2,500,000 square km (greater than 1,000,000 square miles)) BREEDS: in Hawaiian Islands (northwestern chain and islets off Oahu and Molokai), Johnston Atoll, Line Islands, Phoenix Islands, and Marshall Island, Sala y Gomex Island (Chile), Motu-Nui Island (Easter Island), Pitcairn Islands, Marquesa Islands, Tuamotu Islands, Society Islands, and Austral (Tubuai) Islands (Cohen 1998, Allen 1995). RANGES AT SEA: Hawaiian populations disperse to the south and east during the nonbreeding months. Other populations range throughout the eastern Pacific Ocean between 25 deg N and 25 deg S to 175 deg W, occasionally east and north to the area between Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands and Minami Torishima (Marcus Island; summarized in Seto 2001). In the tropical Pacific Ocean, it ranges east to waters off southern Mexico (between Nayarit and Oaxaca) and Costa Rica (50 km west of Cabo Blanco, Nicoya Pensinsula, Puntarenas; Obando-Calderon et al. 2009 (AOU 2011).
