General Description

 On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth ranges from 3.95-5.65 cm diameter, with a mean ñ SD = 5.2 ñ 0.16, with floccose, white to pastel pink aerial mycelium and red pigmentation. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth varies from 7.55-8.6 cm length, with a mean ñ SD = 8.03 ñ 0.26, with floccose, white to pale red aerial mycelium and dark red pigmentation; mycelium rapidly forming globose, smooth "chlamydospores" singly and in chains, the "chlamydospores" becoming light brown with age. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia falcate to curved, 25-55 × 3.5-5 μm, 3- to 5-septate, commonly 3 septate, each with a curved and tapering apical cell and a pedicellate basal cell; microconidia (and "mesoconidia") abundant, microconidia pyriform, ellipsoid to fusoid, 7-10 × 3-5 μm, 0- to 1-septate, "mesoconidia" fusoid, up to 5-septate, produced singly, in small clumps or in false heads from mono- and polyphialidic conidiogenous cells. Teleomorph unknown. Notes. This species grows on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) with growth rate exceeding 2 cm diam., and producing yellow or orange aerial mycelium and brown or golden brown pigmentation; growth on mannitol medium results in yellow or orange yellow or reddish yellow mycelium and grayish yellow or grayish orange or reddish yellow pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) exceeds 5 cm diam., with reddish white aerial mycelium and reddish brown or pastel red pigmentation.
