Neolentinus ponderosus is a brown rot saprophytic mushtoom that lives in the dead wood of pines, especially ponderosa pines. It is usually found growing at higher elevations in the mountain randes of the western united states. It has serrated decurrent gills and is exceptionally hard. It is considered edible despite its hardness, but is relatively uncommon.
