Range Description

This species is known from its type locality in Lake Patzcuaro, Michoacn, Mexico (Hobbs 1974). This lake has a surface area of 130 km2 (Torres 1993) and is at an altitude of 2,035 m above sea level (Bradbury 2000). Furthermore, this species is also known to occur in springs in Chapultepec, Opopeo and Tzurumutaro, Mexico (M. Lpez-Meja., F. Alvarez. and C. Pedraza-Lara pers. comm. 2009). Although the basin is 982km2this species is probablyrestrictedto a limited area around the lake (C. Pedraza-Lara pers. comm 2010). It has been estimated that this species occurs in an area of approximately 200 km2.
