Christopher McAskie commented on "Pinnotheres pisum (Linnaeus 1767)":

@Christopher McAskie: NB Pinnotheres pinnotheres (Linnaeus, 1758) , named before pisum & judging from the name the type species of the genus. And Merriam-Webster online defines pinnotheres as from the greek pinoteres from pine = pen shell & teres from terein to guard

Christopher McAskie commented on "Pinnotheres pisum (Linnaeus 1767)":

I see the English common name's given as Pinna pea crab, & cites WoRMS as source, but in WoRMS this has a red questionmark, ie it's ""unreviewed..not been tested by a taxonomic editor". In 'Handbook of the Marine Fauna of North-West Europe' P.459 it's Pinnotheres pinnotheres (now Nepinnotheres p.)that's called the Pinna pea crab (indeed it's the only 1 of our 2 pea crabs that can be found in a Pinna shell) googling Pinna pea crab shows the term's long been so used, eg sabella.mba.ac.uk/.../Studies_of_the_Plymouth_brachyura._II_The_larval_... ,where the species name was then P. veterum (& it was known to Pliny & Aristotle)
