@Cecilia Lloyd: Bufo in the old sense was not monophyletic, so Frost et al. 2006 split it up into several different genera. I'll add that information to the Anaxyrus page.

What's the story behind the name change here? Is the American Toad really not in genus Bufo anymore?

Saw a mature toad as I was turning over my compost pile. He seemed unperturbed by my presence and took his time hopping away. Next time I'll examine him/her more closely and report back!
