On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth ranges from 5.45-5.65 cm diam. with a mean ñ SD = 5.55 ñ 0.14; aerial mycelium white to light yellow. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth ranges from 8.5-8.65 cm length with a mean ñ SD = 8.58 ñ 0.11; aerial mycelium white to deep yellow; mycelium producing "chlamydospores" not observed. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia often difficult to find, rather slender, straight, thin walled, 25-55 × 2.5-3.5 μm, 3- to 5-septate, each with a curved and tapering apical cell and poorly developed foot shaped basal cell; microconidia abundant, clavate with a flat base, but occasionally napiforme, 10-15 × 1.5-2.5 μm, aseptate, commonly in long chains, but false heads also occasionally occurring, on monophialidic conidiogenous cells. Notes. This species grows on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) with growth rate exceeding 2 cm diam., producing orange white aerial mycelium and grayish orange pigmentation; growth on mannitol medium does not exceed 5 cm diam., with pale red mycelium and brownish red pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) results in white aerial mycelium and pastel red pigmentation.Trusted
