General Description

This species is in the subgenus Oreocarabus. A rather variable species, but common features are: Black, without any trace of metallic lustre, elytra often rufinistic. The raised margin of prothorax is better defined inwards than in nemoralis. The elytral sculpture is based on seven faint ridges on each interval between the rows of foveae but the ridges are irregular, often so obscure and confluent that the impression is of punctures arranged into winding rows. Length 16 to 26 mm.
