Range Description

This species is widespread in the Indo-Pacific. It is found in the Red Sea and near Madagascar to South East Asia, including southern Japan, Australia, to Pohnpei (Micronesia), and American Samoa. In the Eastern Pacific, it is found near the Clipperton Atoll (Glynn 1997). The type locality is likely the Red Sea (Fenner, pers. comm.).

Specific records: Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea (Socotra), Madagascar, Lakshadweep, W Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Yap, Pohnpei (Micronesia), Papua New Guinea, Bismarck Sea - Solomon Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Fiji (DeVantier and Turak pers. comm.).

Razak and Hoeksema (2003) give Indonesia, Australia, China, Guam, Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand.
