Occurs on rocky banks in Brachystegia woodland and in lowland forest, often in transitional areas between deciduous woodland or thicket and riverine forest lowland rain forest. Is a tuberous species, the tubers of which are vertically segmented, which may help in the long-term persistence of this species.
