Myra Hughey
Amphibians of Panama
PhD candidate, Boston University
EOL Fellow, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
Myra Hughey received her Bachelor's of Science from Loyola University New Orleans and is currently a doctoral candidate at Boston University. Broadly, Myra's research interests include community ecology, amphibian biology, entomology, species interactions, and behavioral ecology. Her current research is in Gamboa, Panama, where she works in association with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. As an EOL Fellow, Myra will be creating a website highlighting the diversity of amphibians in Panama. For her dissertation, Myra is examining processes that shape the abundance and distribution of organisms in spatially structured environments. Specifically, she studies insect communities associated with the terrestrial egg masses of red-eyed treefrogs, including frogflies that infest frog egg masses and parasitoid wasps that attack the larvae of the flies. Ultimately, Myra plans to remain in academia, pursuing a career in research and education.
