Collections, Species Observations and Field Guides

The Encyclopedia of Life and iNaturalist.org have partnered to provide species observations capabilities for EOL Collections and a customized field guide application. Read below to determine which tool best suits your needs. Contact EOL Learnng + Education with questions or feedback.

EOL Collections + Species Observations

Using EOL Collections you can “collect” pages on EOL to create your own personalized species checklist that you can annotate and share. You can now add species observation capabilities from iNaturalist.org to your EOL Collection. Although still in it’s developmental stage, this feature can help you turn your Collection into a shared EOL- iNaturalist Project and make observations using the iNaturalist mobile App. Learn more

Field Guides

EOL and iNaturalist have created a new Field Guide application that integrates content from EOL and species observations. Field Guides can be used online, on mobile devices or printed out. Start with an EOL collection (or a list of species) and then choose which text, images and range maps to include from EOL. You can also edit the text information to suit your own needs. Once you have created a guide, you can download either an iPhone or Android App to use it on a mobile device. Learn more
