From 2 to 90 meters.
Habitat: reef-associated. Found from shallow coral reefs to offshore deeper waters. Nocturnal. Solitary or in groups. Occasionally found swimming upside down (Ref. 9710). Feeds mainly on planktonic organisms. Occasionally found in caves and crevices at 5 m to at least 20 m depth. Eaten locally and considered comparable to the Deepwater bullseye (@Cookeolus japonicus@) as a food fish.
