This species is found mainly in southwestern Costa Rica, on low mountains near Puntarenas, Costa Rica, at elevations up to 700 m above sea level. Dendrobates granulifera lives in the humid lowland forests of the Pacific coast, extending down into the adjacent southwestern region of Panama. It has also been introduced along the Atlantic Coast, in a smaller region of southeastern Costa Rica adjacent to Panama.
