Thallus erect to 10 cm long, fronds rising from a discoid holdfast, stipe terete expanding into a flat-shaped blade with marginal proliferations dividing diochotomously 1 to 4 times, each branch to 10 mm wide. Other species of Rhodymenia, Phyllophora; Schottera nicaeensis and Stenogramme interrupta.
