Peccaries vs Pigs
All modern pigs and hogs in North America are actually not indigenous to the continent. Rather, they were imported from Europe and other parts of the old world. Originally, the only pig like animals in North America were peccaries. Pigs and hogs belong to the family Suidae. Peccaries instead belong to the family Tayassuidae. This distinction is made on the fact that peccaries have no visible tails and notably smaller ears than the true pigs and hogs of the family Suidae.
