Wiwaxia moved along the ocean floor using a large muscular foot, just like a snail. This structure is normally obscured by the sclerites (plate like structures), but a few new specimens have revealed the structure of the foot (Smith and Lane 2014). This structure occupies most of the un-armored underside. It has transverse and longitudinal (across and down its length) striations on its surface and resembles the foot of a chiton-which is a mollusc that attaches to rocks in tidal pools (Smith and Lane 2014).
