The type specimen of Megacerops hatcheri (now Megacerops coloradensis) is a nearly complete skull that is housed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History (Osborn 1908). It lacks portions of the upper jaw, specifically the premaxillary bone and the anterior portion of the maxillary bone (Osborn 1908).
