WhyReef - Fun Facts
The red-barred shrimp-goby is a watchman, always on guard. It lives in a very close, or symbiotic, relationship with the fine-striped snapping shrimp. The snapping shrimp will make and maintain a small burrow in the sand, while the goby patrols, protecting the burrow so that other species don’t steal it, and defending the snapping shrimp against its predators. Since they both benefit from hanging out together, it’s a mutualistic relationship.
