Taxonomy & Distribution
The species was described by Charles Kofoid in 1905 from material gathered in Southern California (USA).
The wrong citation appears in some sites "Tintinnopsis dadayi Bonnetto & Ezcurra de Drago, 1973. In: Warren, A. (2013) World Ciliophora Database" Some odd glitch has Bonnetto (sic) & Ezcurrra de Drago 1973 a paper on the taxonomy on sponges from Argentina as taxonomic authority for the species description of this tintinnid ciliate.
Tintinnopsis dadayi has been known for over a century and been reported from a wide variety of systems ranging from the Pacific Coast of California (Kofoid 1905) to the Carribean Sea (Duran 1957) and the Chesapeake Bay (Dolan & Gallegos 2001); notably, not known in the waters of Argentina.
