Cole and Chatfield-Taylor (2012) found that Orchelimum superbum occurs not only in scattered locations along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of the United States, as was long known, but is also widespread and locally common on the Great Plains in a variety of habitats, including tallgrass prairie, wetlands, and roadsides.
