This small (circa 3 mm) beetle was recovered from sifted leaf litter. A sharp-eyed student saw its tiny beetle-ish form moving across the sifting pan--I don't think I would have seen it on my own. It took me a while to find it on BugGuide, but I finally got a good match--Microtonus sericans
. There is only one representative of this genus in North America, which makes the species ID a bit more certain!
