Sweetbay is an eastern US species that occupies sites from Massachusetts south to Florida and west to Arkansas and Texas [38,42]. The northernmost sweetbay population, which may represent an escaped ornamental or native population, occurs in Glouster, Massachusetts. The next nearest population occurs 150 miles south on the eastern shore of Long Island, New York .
