This observation is part of the High Tech High Insects of San Diego Field Guide. Location: Latitude: 32.735229 Longitude: -117.116150 This insect was found in a small patch located within a field in North Park, San Diego, California. It was found hidden within a patch of greenery close to the ground seemingly hiding from predators. The field itself contains many bushes with Yellow Garden spiders and Honey Bees. Additionally the ground was very wet from previous rainy days and many insects regularly found were inactive. The grasshopper stayed still for a a couple of seconds at a time before jumping to a different location. One of his legs was missing and may have been taken off during a confrontation with a spider or other predator. The grasshopper continued to jump with little sense of direction as it quickly made a large leap into the web of a spider who quickly wrapped it up.
