It has been reported that P. carpunya leaves are used in South American countries as an anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-diarrheal and anti-parasitical remedy as well as an ailment for skin irritations (Diaz & Dorado, 1986; Henrique et al., 2009; Quileza et al., 2010)
