We found this growing on a muddy bit track in the Powranna Reserve, Northern Midlands, Tasmania. It's not a fantastic shot but I think I can make out stigma and anthers in the various spiky heads, so I'm thinking it's Cyperaceae
, maybe something like an Isolepis
? But I honestly have no idea. Given the habit I would say that this was an annual, probably a winter annual. Anyone recognise this? Update:
Looks like it is an Isolepis
. A friend has suggested Isolepis hystrix
and that looks like a good match to me.
