American chestnut (
Castanea dentata) leaves, Ricketts Glen State Park, Luzerne County, as seen from the Grand View Trail. The largest (about 20 feet high) and healthiest American chestnut tree I've ever seen. Didn't detect any chestnut blight (orangish cankers). Couldn't get a descent shot of the entire tree; it was all but enveloped by several robust beeches. Came across
another disease-free, good-sized American chestnut tree several years ago in Delaware State Forest, Pike County.
