To 6 inches. This is the only sculpin on the Pacific Coast that has no pelvic fins, or "legs" (the scientific name means "legless" fish with red margins); it has red-tinged lips and a very loew, red-margined spiny dorsal fin, no scales, a very smooth skin, and a single white preopercular spine. Look for it under tidepool rocks at low tide and around rocky inshore areas on exposed coastlines. Range: Sitka (Alaska) to Pillar Point (central California).
