Camponotus gigas gigas LATREILLE, 1802 Genus:
Camponotus (carpenter ants, Rossameisen) Family:
Formicidae (ants, Ameisen) I found a small nest (#10-20) in dead wood. They are usually active at night. While shooting one bit into my ring-finger, several mm deep; I was impressed! A handful of these ants may meet at night to engage in what is considered to be a ritual battle. These fights can continue for several months (Wikipedia). Indonesia, N-Sumatra, 65 km W Medan: vic.
