Earthworm (Class: Clitellata
; Family: Megascolecidae
sensu Blakemore, 2000) in heavy black soil near Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Photographed on 19 May 2009. length: c. 150 mm. Rob Blakemore (pers. comm.) suggests that it is a native species in the Family Megascolecidae
(not a Lumbricus
sp.) because of constriction between 14 and 17 segments. It is difficult to identify from photograph and would need dissection. There are no earthworm taxonomists currently working in Australia.
