Insecta, parasitos obligados de otros insectos. Su diminuto tamaño y cripticos habitos les hacen pasar casi desapercibidos. Algunas especies de
Strepsiptera como
Xenos vesparum son capaces de modificar el comportamiento del hospedador, por ejemplo obligando a las avispas infectadas a agregarse, sin mas motivo que organizar la parada nupcial de los parasitos a "lomos" de sus victimas. En ese momento los machos alados emergeran de sus hospedadores para fecundar las hembras vermiformes, las cuales permaneceran toda su vida como endoparasitos. En esta imagen se pueden ver al menos dos hembras "incrustadas" en los tergitos de una avispa
Polistes dominula. Tambien pueden modificar el rol social del hospedador, haciendo comportarse a las obreras infectadas como reinas, con el fin de infectar mas facilmente los nidos...
