A photosynthetic bacterium, discovered in Lake Alchichica, Mexico. It is able to control the formation of minerals like calcium within its own body. Candidatus means that this is just a temporary or provisional name, for a bacterial species not yet sufficiently described. The suggested genus and species names are Gleomargarita lithophora.
